Marcelo Brozovic’s name was really in the spotlight during the weekend. The links with Manchester United have come out as a shock to many fans, as it was claimed he’d cost €50m.
Manchester United’s reported interest, came after similar with Tottenham Hotspur, and was reported by Gazzetta, who put one and one together after José Mourinho’s trip to Brozovic’s hometown Zagreb.
However, Gazzetta are obviously not the only big sports outlet in Italy, and it’s interesting to see what Corriere Dello Sport have claimed over the weekend. They say the rumours around Brozovic have been growing, but when mentioning the interested sides, they only name Tottenham and Monaco.
They also claim that the €50m release clause may scare the clubs a little, which is a very reasonable assumption to make. When Tottenham were first linked to Brozovic it was stated they’re willing to offer around €25m for the player.
Gazzetta then said that could be enough for Tottenham or anyone else to sign the player, but then doubled the figures for Manchester United. Mauricio Pochettino signing the 24 year old for €25m would be conceivable, Tottenham being interested at €50m simply isn’t.
