Following a day of optimism and a morning of pessimism, Gianluca di Marzio has come out on Friday afternoon to crush the heart of many Tottenham fans.
The journalist, taking to his website, is reporting that, as things stand, the ‘London trail’ for Antonio Conte is ‘getting further away’.
It’s stated the manager has ‘more and more doubts’ about agreeing to the job on offer at Spurs, and the manager, who was already thinking twice about it on Thursday, ‘seems to be veering towards not accepting’ the offer from the Premier League side.
This would come as a crushing blow to Daniel Levy and co., who would see yet another target of theirs slip through their fingers as they continue their search to find the official full-time José Mourinho replacement.
Di Marzio states the doubts from Conte’s end are ‘especially down to the potential competitiveness of the squad in view of next (and subsequent) year(s)’.
He feels the ‘technical gap with other bigger teams is honestly very big and would be difficult to bridge’.
Thus, the ‘trail is getting colder’, and it appears Conte is now one step away from dropping out of talks altogether.
