When Steve Mounié broke onto the scene at Montpellier this season, he was always destined to play in England at some stage in his career.
Why? He’s 6’3”, not exactly slow and very good in the air.
Back in April, when he was linked with a move to West Brom, we covered what he would bring to any club who decided to buy him, and it appears the article is now more relevant than ever, but for Huddersfield fans.
According to L’Equipe, who have been very good on this one, the recently promoted side are on the verge of signing the Benin international for around €13m.
If that price is correct, then Mounié will overtake Olivier Giroud as Montpellier’s most expensive sale as Arsenal only paid €12m for their target man back in 2012.
The French newspaper explain the striker is expected to be in Huddersfield in the next few days to pass his medical, even though the clubs are yet to fully agree on the price, which, if he’s travelling, shouldn’t be an issue.
It seems the Terriers managed to see off Watford in this one, as L’Equipe mention the Hornets were also interested.
Mounié scored 14 goals and picked up three assists in 35 league appearances last season in a team that finished 15th in Ligue 1.
If the 22-year-old continues his form from last season, then David Wagner and Huddersfield fans have a lot to look forward to in the upcoming Premier League campaign.
