Chelsea are the ‘closest’ to securing Borussia Dortmund star Youssef Moukoko as the race for his signature heats up.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Marc Behrenbeck, who say the Blues are pushing for the youngster.
Moukoko is considered one of the hottest up and coming talents in Europe after scoring 11 goals in 59 games for Dortmund’s senior team and 90 goals in 56 for their U17s and 47 in 25 for the U19s.
His contract with the German side is set to expire in the summer and while they are working on an extension, a deal is yet to be agreed.
That means Moukoko is free to negotiate a free transfer for the summer from January 1st and Chelsea are one of the clubs to have shown an interest in him.
Several reports have made it clear they are trying to secure his signature, with it even claimed they are willing to pay next month to get him ahead of the competition.
Behrenbeck does not confirm that is the case but does say their interest is the ‘hottest’ of the clubs involved.
“It is clear that a lot of top clubs are enquiring about Moukoko and are keen on him as he is available on a free transfer in the summer and is a bargain,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“We hear that Chelsea are the closest. There have already been negotiations and talks. Other clubs on the list are Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Newcastle.
“But the hottest is Chelsea, the others are not that far yet.”
