The Portuguese media continues to cover the Wolves managerial vacancy, after the club parted ways with Bruno Lage at the weekend.
Finding themselves in the relegation zone, the club aren’t quite as attractive as they have been at times in recent years, but are still being linked to big Portuguese options.
Two of those are FC Porto’s Sérgio Conceição and Sporting’s Ruben Amorim.
Conceição won the Portuguese league, cup and super-cup with Porto last season. They’re in the Champions League but have lost both their matches so far, including an embarrassing 4-0 home defeat to Club Brugge.
With Porto currently third in Liga Portugal, the prospect of him moving to Wolves has been talked down by some in the country. That includes pundit Rodolfo Reis, who Record quote as saying: “Wolverhampton? Sérgio Conceição would go from a horse to a donkey.”
Amorim won the league title in 2021, and picked up the league cup that year as well as this. His Sporting side are currently seventh in the table, and the manager wasn’t entirely happy with the club’s summer business, including selling Matheus Nunes to Wolves.
Despite that, Octávio Machado is quoted as saying: “Wolverhampton? Ruben Amorim is not the type of man to abandon ship.”
