Former Valencia goalkeeper Santiago Canizares has stuck the knife into former Everton manager Ronald Koeman after he was dismissed by the Premier League side this week.

The Spaniard played under Koeman at Valencia, but the Dutchman failed to succeed in La Liga.

Speaking to Super Deporte, Canizares spoke about his former boss, and why he failed at Everton: “At Everton he signed several important players for a lot of money, and once again he’s not been able to create a project… he’s not a coach who knows how to create a project, hopefully he’ll learn.

“He came to Valencia to restore a team that was a bit broken and broke it even more.”

Koeman spent a small fortune in the last transfer window bringing in new players, but they failed to gel as a team. With the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United this summer Everton have struggled in front of goal.

The Toffees have scored just seven league goals this season, with four of those coming from Wayne Rooney. Subsequently Everton currently lie in the bottom three after their crushing defeat to Arsenal last Sunday.
