Leeds United appointed Marcelo Bielsa as their new manager in 2018 and the Whites enjoyed a good start to the 2018/19 campaign under his guidance.

The Peacocks were top of the table after the first half of the last season, but their failure to finish in the top two forced them to feature in the play-offs. They lost to Derby County and that prolonged their wait to return to the Premier League.

Leeds are currently top of the table with 71 points after 37 matches, leading third placed Fulham by seven points. They are in the driving seat for the automatic qualification to the top flight.

All football leagues across Europe are suspended until the start of April and there have been rumours about this season becoming void, if leagues don’t resume in the coming months.

Mateusz Klich and his Leeds teammates are eagerly awaiting a decision on his side’s fate of making it to the Premier League.

“It would be strange if it turned out that we were playing for nothing. We are seven points ahead of the play-off zone with nine matches to go [this season],” Klich told WP Sportowe Fakty.

“We are very close to the coveted promotion to the Premier League. The cancellation of this season would be unfair in this case. I hope this won’t happen.”

Meanwhile, UEFA have decided to postpone the summer’s European championship to 2021. Klich has backed this move and stressed it’s important to finish the league.

“The Euros hasn’t even started. We don’t know all the opponents yet. This is not surprising for me; I expected the championship to be postponed,” the Leeds player stressed.

“In my opinion, it is more important to finish the league games. I strongly hope that we will manage to finish the season. Before the official decision to suspend the Championship, the entire team wanted to continue playing, but the federation decided otherwise.”
