Manchester United have identified Sporting manager Rúben Amorim as their main target to replace Erik ten Hag.
The Portuguese coach has a €20m clause which will lowered to €10m for certain clubs including the Red Devils.
Earlier today, Record reported Amorim is ‘one small step away’ from joining Manchester United. It was also stated Sporting B coach João Pereira is in contention to replace the 39-year-old.
Portuguese politician André Pinotes Batista is a fan of the Primeira Liga side. He’s been speaking to CMTV about the latest claims of the Premier League side wanting to appoint Amorim as their new manager. His comments are relayed by Bancada.
The Lions appointed Amorim in 2020 and he’s helped them win two titles so far. They are currently leading the table, three points ahead of second placed FC Porto.
Sporting have scored 30 goals and conceded only twice in the league this season.
Batista is well aware the manager can’t turn down Manchester United if they were to find an agreement with Sporting. He remains hopeful Amorim can stay until the end of this season, to help the club retain the title.
“How good it is to be great. How good it is to be champion, how good it is to be happy. It’s time to start deconstructing this atmosphere of mourning that we feel at Sporting. There isn’t a single Sporting fan willing to give up Rúben Amorim,” he said.
“Manchester United are one of those few clubs you don’t say no to. It was like that with other coaches in Portugal. And all over Europe. There’s an issue here that has to be very clear. Nobody is eternal. Rúben Amorim won’t last forever either.
“I want him to stay until the end of the season and become a two-time (in a row) champion. That he fulfils his promise.”
