David de Gea’s future at Manchester United beyond this season remains uncertain and the Premier League side have been linked with a few goalkeepers, including Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez.
The Spaniard’s contract expires in June and the Red Devils have an option to extend it by a year, which they haven’t exercised yet. Tom Heaton and Jack Butland [on loan from Crystal Palace] also have deals at Old Trafford until the summer.
Manchester United could be looking at a new goalkeeper in the summer and there have been rumours of interest in the Aston Villa star.
The Argentina international was named as the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper earlier this week. After this, TyC Sports interviewed Beto Martínez, where he talked about his son’s future with the Villans.
When asked about Manchester United, the 30-year-old’s father said: “I hope he goes to one of those great teams, until now he has his head in Aston Villa.”
Martínez Sr insisted he doesn’t know what will happen with Emiliano’s future but did claim he’ll “confirm it later”. He also insisted Unai Emery is an admirer of the World Cup winner and wants to retain the stopper at Villa Park.
“Emery asks him not to leave, to please stay at Aston Villa. He loves him. Everything is more than good at Aston Villa with Emi,” he explained.
The goalkeeper’s father would favour Emiliano moving to Spain in the summer.
“If it were up to my son, I would like him to go to Spain because he likes the heat,” Beto added.
