Desperate for a transfer away from Leicester City in the summer, Riyad Mahrez’s wish was never fulfilled, and the Algeria international remains at King Power Stadium.
With many opportunities to sign elsewhere having come and gone, with either the club or the winger himself rejecting them, things aren’t looking up for the 26-year-old.
Leicester, despite a 2-0 win against Everton in Claude Puel’s first game in charge, remain firmly in the bottom half of the table, and there’s been no indication that Mahrez has changed his mind about leaving.
In fact, the latest rumour to emerge is that Marseille, a club who turned down the opportunity to sign him in 2014, are keen on bringing him in in January, and that’s despite the €30m asking price.
We didn’t pay much attention to the story originally as it started in England, yet a small tidbit of information in L’Expression on Thursday caught our eye.
The Algerian website, relaying the news from England, seem to reveal that, despite saying he wasn’t prepared to return to France anytime soon, Mahrez could be open to a move to the south of France.
After all, Rudi Garcia’s side are currently fighting for a top four finish in Ligue 1 and currently sit second behind Red Bull Salzburg in their Europa League group.
It still seems like a long shot, but if this information is true, it shows how much Mahrez has changed his mind recently.
