It seems Chelsea might get an even bigger chance to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting this summer in case his manager leaves the Lions.
You’ve probably seen the recent links between Liverpool and Ruben Amorim, who seems to be in talks to take Jurgen Klopp’s place.
Now as Gyokeres’ agent spoke to newspaper A Bola, he pointed out that in case the manager goes, the Chelsea target should have a bigger reason to leave as well.
“It’s important to emphasise this point: I chose Sporting for Viktor when there were eight other clubs interested, they paid more and he could have gone to the Premier League. I chose Sporting because of Ruben Amorim, because he could help Viktor develop. Somehow it changed his career,” said Hasan Çetinkaya.
Çentikaya gave a very similar interview to Record today, and as the outlet writes about the potential destinations for Gyokeres, Chelsea are named as a possibility.
The agent tried not to say that the Premier League is the only destination for the player, claiming there are other clubs in the race as well.
“There’s a high probability that they’ll be from the Premier League, because they’re the ones who have the financial means to sign Viktor at the moment. There are also Italian clubs interested, of course.”
Gyokeres has 36 goals and 15 assists in 42 appearances for Sporting so far. Even though it’s clear that the auction for him will get far, it seems there’s a limit for that, as he’s protected by a release clause which is worth €100m.
