Heung-min Son helped South Korea to a friendly victory over Colombia on Tuesday and was one of the best players on show, scoring the first goal of the match and providing a headache for the opposition.
One of the defenders he was up against is someone he knows very well from Tottenham. Davinson Sanchez and his international teammates struggled to contain Son, with Everton’s Yerry Mina leaving the pitch early with a hamstring injury.
After the match, Son spoke in English with Spanish newspaper AS.
After explaining how happy he was with the 2-1 victory, and how hard it is to beat the South American side, Son was asked about all the trouble he’d provided for Spurs teammate Sanchez.
The South Korea star was quick to praise the defender and explain they’re good mates who both look forward to international duty: “Davinson… I’m really, really good friends with him. I’m happy for him, he’s been playing an amazing season. Playing for Colombia, I’m happy for him.
“You know, the travelling for your country, it makes me happy, and Davinson as well. I’m happy to be playing for South Korea.”
Tottenham travel to Anfield on Sunday for a huge Premier League match against Liverpool. Spurs will be relieved that Sanchez and Son came out of the match unscathed, unlike Mina.
