Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is an option for German side Fürth as they look to replace injured keeper Marius Funk.
That’s according to Kicker, who say Fürth need a replacement after their goalkeeper was ruled out with a ‘serious knee injury’.
That means they are ‘forced to act’ in the medium term, because both Funk’s contract and that of Sascha Burchert’s contracts are expiring.
Sports director Rachid Azzouzi has already admitted “we have to think about it” but any options will have to be financially viable, while they also want to look for a German.
That is where Karius could become an option. He ‘never gets a chance’ at Liverpool, with his blunder in the Champions League final effectively ending his time for the club.
He’s not been since, instead spending time on loan at Besiktas and Union Berlin before returning to Anfield this summer, where he’s not even worth a place on the bench.
Both parties would be happy to bring their relationship, which is set to happen in the summer when his contract with Liverpool ends, and thus he could be in Azzouzi’s ‘sights’. There’s no mention if they’d move in January or wait, though.
It’s something the club aren’t talking about for the time being, with coach Stefan Leitl quoted as saying “he is undoubtedly a very, very good goalkeeper, but I don’t get involved in names or speculation”.
