Fenerbahce’s Dutch manager Dick Advocaat wants to sign a world-class midfielder to solve his club’s ongoing problem in midfield, and Manchester United’s Juan Mata emerged has emerged as first choice candidate, reports Turkish media outlet AmkSpor.

The 69-year-old coach has been able to turn Fenerbahce’s bad season around, with the club winning their last 5 games and slowly getting back in the title race.

Advocaat has allegedly told Fenerbahce’s board that Juan Mata is the player who can make Fenerbahce a better team. Such is the way in the Turkish media, Advocaat’s words on Mata are paraphrased: ”He fits the bill. He’s the one we need. If we can get him, we would definitely be signing him. He’s an exceptional player.”

Sold at Chelsea by Jose Mourinho, many expected the 28-year-old to leave Manchester United when the new manager came in. That has not been the case so far and the Spanish international is one of the players who features consistently for Mourinho so any transfer, especially in January, seems unlikely.

Fenerbahce wanted to loan Mata in the summer but Manchester United refused to do a deal. Since then Mata has appeared in 10 Premier League games, scoring 3 goals and adding one assist.

It’s not happening is it.
