It’s not too unkind to say the 4-1 defeat to Sheffield United wasn’t a great match for Ørjan Nyland. The goalkeeper made mistakes and probably impacted the game in a more negative way then any of his teammates.
It came following a good performance in the 1-1 draw with Reading, so hopefully the setback hasn’t dented the 27 year old’s confidence too much.
Moving from FC Ingolstadt to the Championship was always going to need a period of adaptation and overall things haven’t gone too badly.
Nyland is now away for the international break and he’ll be getting all the support he need with Norway.
The country’s national team manager Lars Lagerbäck was asked about the Aston Villa player’s current situation given the negative reports of him since the Sheffield United match.
Lagerbäck is quoted by Nettavisen as saying: “It’s always the case that keepers get serious attention if it’s thought they’ve made a mistake. As I know Ørjan, he is mentally strong. So I do not think it’s a problem if he should play.”
Rune Jarstein is expected to get the nod ahead of the Aston Villa player for Norway.
