Sevilla’s assistant coach Pablo Sanz has insisted that Diego Carlos is focused on the Spanish club amid transfer interest from Newcastle United.

The Brazilian defender appears to be Newcastle’s number one target to bolster their defence before the end of the transfer window, with Eddie Howe determined to add a centre-back to his squad.

They’ve pushed hard for Carlos’ signature, with reports stating a bid has already been rejected by Sevilla but won’t be the last one they receive.

In the meantime, several reports have indicated that Carlos is keen on the move to St James Park, particularly as Newcastle have offered him a huge increase on his current wage packet.

That was treated as fact until the player was questioned by journalists after the recent clash with Valencia and indicated he would be staying in Spain.

Those comments muddied the water somewhat but does not appear to have put off Newcastle, who are continuing to push for his signature regardless.

Now Sanz has commented on the situation and insisted all of the transfer talk is not bothering the player behind the scenes.

“I see him well,” Mundo Deportivo report him saying when asked about Newcastle.

“He’s a mature guy, the other day against Valencia; he played a great game.

“I’m calm about that part, then I can’t control the other issues, but I see him very well, very focused, and from there, I hope he’ll be with us for many years.”
