West Ham United were keen on a move for Sevilla striker Munir right up until deadline day of the summer transfer window.

That’s according to his agent, who has confirmed the interest from the Hammers in his client this summer in an interview with ABC.

West Ham were known to be keen on adding a striker to their squad this summer, with Michail Antonio their top scoring forward on ten goals last season.

That was a tally matched by midfielder Tomas Soucek, with Jesse Lingard, who was on loan from Manchester United and has not returned, the third top scorer with nine.

Those numbers highlighted a need for a new forward, and David Moyes confirmed towards the end of the season that he wanted to add more pace to his options.

That is not something West Ham achieved, instead adding attacking midfielder Nikola Vlasic to boost their forward options instead.

It seems that they were trying, though, with Munir very much a target but turning down the opportunity to move to the London Stadium.

“Monchi valued him at ten million euros at the beginning of the market, and in the last few days, he would have considered loaning him out with an option to buy,” Valdi told ABC.

“He has had many offers and interest from many teams. In Holland, both PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord have been interested in him until the last minute. Ajax were also considering him.

“That was a good option, but perhaps his long period of inactivity took its toll. In England, both Crystal Palace and West Ham showed a lot of interest until the last day of the market.

“Munir didn’t want to leave Sevilla or La Liga. In Spain, the offers he has received have not been to his liking.”
