A product of Manchester City’s youth academy, Lukas Nmecha is contracted at the Etihad club until 2021.

He’s still got time on his side to convince Pep Guardiola, but in the meantime, he’s being sent around on loans around various leagues to get some game experience under his belt.

Last year saw a season long loan to Preston North End take place, while this year, the Hamburg-born forward was sent to Wolfsburg, who have an option of around €11.5m to make it permanent.

However, Kicker pointed out last week that Nmecha needed to convince the club he was ‘worth a lot of money’ to get them to trigger that clause, and that had yet to happen.

It seemed Oliver Glasner, his manager in the Bundesliga, was taking his time to give him a start, but he decided to do so at the weekend by throwing him at the deep end as his side faced Borussia Dortmund away.

Nmecha only played 66 minutes, and Wolfsburg got pummelled 3-0, yet there are many positives the 20-year-old can take home with him.

That’s what Glasner said after the fixture, relayed by Fussball Transfers: “Luka had never heard of the way we do it here before, but he is very attentive. He’s getting better and better. I like that because I know that at the end of the day, he will be the one profiting the most”.

Positive news for the youngster who will be hoping to get another chance from the off on Thursday as Wolfsburg welcome KAA Gent in the Europa League, a game where he might even find the back of the net for the first time this season.
