Arsenal loaned midfielder Fabio Vieira to FC Porto late in the summer transfer window, as the player sought more game time than what would have been available to him in London.
His stint at the Portuguese club hasn’t quite got off the ground, with Vieira yet to make an appearance for Porto.
That’s due to an injury, and there’s uncertainty about when the Arsenal owned player will return.
Porto boss Vitor Bruno has spoken about the player’s situation and is quoted by A Bola as saying: “It won’t be a concern, he’s being reassessed daily. He’s really eager to help. He’s also brilliant at what his maximum ceiling is, the way he adapts to a new group, he comes with different habits from England.”
Bruno suggested that Porto are looking to have him back as soon as they can but there is no real timeframe for that.
“He brings good energy and that will help him recover as quickly as possible. Let’s hope it’s as quickly as possible.”
Vieira needs all the game time he can get this season, especially if he wants to use it to impress Mikel Arteta and then build a future at Arsenal.
Porto won’t be able to afford a permanent transfer next summer so this is a key period for the midfielder and what his future may hold.
He’s suffered multiple injuries in recent years, and that alone will be a worry for the Gunners. That the latest injury means he hasn’t even been able to start his Porto stint is a further concern.
