In a new interview with the Paraguayan media, Brighton & Hove Albion youngster Julio Encisco talked about the wait for his Premier League debut, as well as a tip Newcastle United’s Miguel Almirón gave him.
Following a €11.6m move from Libertad last summer, the midfielder had to wait a little to feature in England’s top flight.
His first game for the Seagulls was played in August, in an EFL Cup match against Forest Green, but the clash against Chelsea last week certainly meant a lot more to him.
Interviewed by 970AM, Enciso now revealed that his patience had some support from his compatriot, Newcastle’s Miguel Almirón.
He claims that when Brighton faced the Magpies, the two had a conversation and some advice was given.
“When we had to play against Newcastle, we talked about the subject of patience. He explained to me that it was also difficult for him to play from the start and that helped me a lot,” said Enciso (via Versus).
Enciso also talked about the change of managers, since it was Graham Potter who was in charge when he arrived.
He claims, however, that the communication with Roberto De Zerbi is even easier, and praised the new coach’s way of playing.
“One has many doubts, because it was the manager who brought me to Brighton. But the new manager gave me confidence from the first moment, he gives the younger ones a lot of confidence. When he started talking to me I felt more comfortable, because Italian is understood a little more.”
“Every day I really want to work, to keep learning and growing in football. I think you earn opportunities and from now on you have to work double or triple. It’s not easy here because there are many good players.”
“We’re a team that likes to have the ball. The new coach likes to score a lot of goals and that’s important because that’s how games are won.”
Despite the friendship with Newcastle’s Almirón, Enciso recently spoke in another interview about his wish of taking over Paraguay’s number 10 shirt from the Newcastle player.
