New Burnley striker Wout Weghorst has insisted he is confident the club will avoid relegation this season; otherwise, he wouldn’t have joined them.
Weghorst arrived at Turf Moor towards the end of the January transfer window as a replacement for Chris Wood, who signed for Newcastle earlier in the month.
His departure left a huge hole in Burnley’s forward line, with Wood having been the main goalscorer for the Clarets over the last few years.
Indeed, it is his goals that have kept Burnley in the Premier League, so replacing them is vital to their chances of staying up this season.
Sean Dyche’s side are currently bottom of the Premier League and four points from safety, with just one win to their name this season.
Crucially, though, they have games in hand on their competition, meaning the fight is far from over at this moment in time.
Getting Weghorst scoring will be crucial to their chances, and the striker insists he has no worries about relegation personally.
“It’s going to be a huge challenge,” he told ESPN.
“If I didn’t have confidence in that, I wouldn’t have made this step. I’m someone who has always gone with his gut and makes choices from the heart. I got a great feeling here.
“Of course, there are risks involved in the step you take. Eventually, you take those risks into account. Let me put it this way: you’re prepared for that.”
