Manchester United flop Antony is shining at Real Betis because he is feeling the love from the club and their fans.
That’s according to former midfielder Denilson, who has commented on the forward in an interview with AS.
Antony joined Real Betis on loan from Manchester United in the January transfer window and has not looked back since.
He arrived with the burden of his time at Old Trafford on his shoulders, having failed to live up to the €95m they paid to sign him from Ajax in 2022.
He’s managed just 12 goals and five assists in 96 games since then but has hit the ground running in Spain, with three goals and two assists in six games so far and several impressive performances that have earned him all of the plaudits.
The Brazilian appears to be a man unshackled in La Liga and a completely different player, naturally leading to questions about what has gone so wrong at Manchester United.
Denilson, who knows the burden of an expensive transfer having once been the most expensive player in the world, believes it is a simple case of feeling the love at Betis so far.
“It was the right decision,” he said about the transfer.
“He needed love and attention to show his immense potential, and Betis is the best place for that. As a good Brazilian he needs joy to be on the pitch and at Betis he has recovered it.
“He has started very well, with goals and great play. He will give a lot of joy.”
