Brentford’s insistence on signing Michael Kayode from Fiorentina finally paid off in the January transfer window, as the Italian joined on a loan deal.

The Bees had tried to sign the defender in the summer but the move was rejected.

Italy’s football media still isn’t over the player’s exit. Walter Sabatini has already spoken of his sadness about the transfer and now ex-Fiorentina defender Stefano Carobbi has also spoken about the move.

In a chat with Toscana TV, Carobbi stated his belief that Kayode should not have been sold.

He said, as relayed by FiorentinaUno: “I would have bet on Kayode again, I would have kept him. He is very young, he can still grow a lot but he needs space.”

This shows again that there is little happiness about Fiorentina’s decision to sell the 20-year-old defender.

In hindsight, it was more of a financial decision than a tactical decision. The youngster had played over 2000 minutes in Serie A last season and this season his game time went down.

Brentford have the option to buy Kayode permanently in the summer. If that happens, Fiorentina could earn €17m from the sale. Since he is a product of La Viola’s youth academy, the sale could help the club a lot financially.
