Portuguese newspaper O Jogo report in their Saturday edition that Simeon Slavchev seems to be creeping closer towards a Birmingham City move.
The Sporting owned midfielder has been on trial with Birmingham City, and O Jogo say the initial trial period was extended to include Saturday’s home friendly match against Swansea City.
With Harry Redknapp described as ‘pleased’ with what he’s seen from the 23 year old Bulgarian so far, there’s confidence a deal can be reached when the trial comes to an end.
However, as repeatedly reported in Portugal, Slavchev isn’t just owned by Sporting, with the Portuguese club only having 80% of his rights. The rest is owned by investors and if Birmingham were to sign the midfielder permanently, they’d have to settle that situation.
A loan would be easier, and it’s presumed in Portugal that’s what will happen, but with Slavchev’s contract running until 2019, there may be efforts to extent it by a year before agreeing any temporary deal with Birmingham City.
