Christian Eriksen is living a happier time with the Denmark national team. Too often in recent years, the Tottenham man has had huge pressure piled upon his shoulders and too many barriers placed in the way of success.
Former Denmark coach Morten Olsen had been in the job long term, and wasn’t willing to build a team around Eriksen’s strengths, and yet himself was frustrated by the player’s inability to replicate his Tottenham form for Denmark.
It’s now a new era, with Åge Hareide in charge, and Eriksen seems to be enjoying himself more. Eriksen scored at the weekend as Denmark beat Armenia 1-0 in a World Cup Qualifier, and whilst he also missed a second half penalty, it was an end to a poor scoring record in home matches.
Quoted by Denmark’s BT, Eriksen said: “I had saved the goal for a special occaison… we got the three points and that was the main thing.”
“We did what we had to, but we can certainly agree that we should have scored a few more goals. We created enough chances, but we should have put the ball over the line more times.”
