Tottenham youngster Alfie Whiteman, currently on loan at Degerfors, has defended Jose Mourinho, labelling him ‘kind’ and a ‘good person’.
Mourinho is currently in charge of Roma in Serie A, having joined the Italian side in the summer after he found himself a free agent following his sacking at Spurs
He spent just 516 days in charge at Tottenham, having arrived to replace Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.
He managed just 86 games in charge of the club but left with a tally of 45 wins, 17 draws and 24 defeats and a points per game ratio of 1.77.
That’s the lowest of his managerial career, with his time in charge of Tottenham having been deemed a massive failure for all involved.
Indeed, there was a sense from the club that the players had turned against him, but Whiteman is seemingly not one of them.
“He’s a legend. He has won many trophies; he is a good coach and has proven it. He is kind and also a good person,” he told Fotbollskanalen.
“He had good training, and there was good talk during the half-time break with him; he was very motivating.
“He is a very smart person; you quickly understand that he has been a part of this sport for a long time. It is an honour to have worked with him, and it is fun that he is now doing well in Roma.”
Things certainly seem to be happier at Tottenham now Mourinho has departed, with new coach Nuno Espirito Santo far less divisive than his fellow countryman.
After a winning start to the season, it’s currently all smiles in the dressing room, with even Harry Kane, who spent most of the summer trying to leave, seemingly happy.
It seems there is one man who tops the happiness charts, though, and Whiteman has revealed who that is.
“There is good energy in there, but Son (Heung-Min) smiles all the time and is very happy,” he added.
“(But) what happens in the dressing room stays there.”
