Scoring one and assisting another in Saturday’s 3-1 win over Zambia, Sadio Mané enjoyed a good game for Senegal.
However, performance aside, the game was marred by a lengthy wait at half-time when a power cut hit the stadium and plunged it into darkness.
The Liverpool star, along with his teammates and the opposition, had to wait around 35 minutes instead of the standard 15 while the problem was fixed, and that didn’t go down well with the 29-year-old.
Mané, who scored 16 goals and picked up nine assists under Jürgen Klopp in a rather disappointing season for both himself and the Anfield side, had some criticism to send at those in charge of the stadium and the fixture for the incident.
Speaking in a press conference after the game, relayed by Foot Mercato, he said: “The Senegalese people deserve better. What happened is deplorable. For top level players, it’s complicated to wait 30-35 minutes and then get back into the game.
“What happened isn’t worthy of a football country like Senegal. I think they need to do better. And the state of the pitch was catastrophic”.
Clearly not holding back, the Liverpool forward will now focus on Tuesday’s international friendly against Cape Verde, set to take place in the exact same stadium, Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor, in Dakar.
