Former Premier League midfielder Didi Hamann has advised Kai Havertz to choose Chelsea instead of Manchester United should he move this summer.
Havertz has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer after establishing himself as one of the hottest properties in world football this season.
The highly-rated midfielder has been in sensational form for Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 15 goals and registering eight assists in 38 games so far.
That has seen him linked with a big-money move to several big sides in Europe, with Chelsea and Manchester United named among his suitors.
Manchester United’s interest is long-established and reports this week indicated they have been ‘working hard’ on a deal for the 21-year-old and are ‘definitely an option’ for him should he move.
Chelsea’s interest, meanwhile, has emerged over the last week, with reports claiming they will push for his signature once they have secured a deal for RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner and he ‘can imagine’ himself at Stamford Bridge.
If both clubs are interested and move this summer, it will likely be down to Havertz to determine where he ends up, and Hamann believes that he should look to London.
“When a player like Kai Havertz changes clubs and signs somewhere for five years, the long-term perspective is more important,” he told Sky Sports Germany.
“Perspective is important for a player, but Manchester has been bobbing in a vacuum for years.
“On the other hand, if I look at Chelsea, they have a coach with Frank Lampard who did a great job for the club as a player – and I have the feeling that the Blues are growing again after a long time.
“For the first time in a long time, you have a team with which the fans can really identify.
“If a Timo Werner or possibly a Kai Havertz were to be added, it would be an incredibly exciting and interesting story.
“If I think about where I see the clubs now, and in two or three years, the decision for Chelsea would be a relatively easy one for me as a player.”
