Signed by West Ham in August of 2019 for a fee surpassing £10m, there were some expectations placed on Albian Ajeti.

The striker had scored 43 goals and assisted another 21 in 96 appearances at Basel before his move to the Hammers, but he failed to replicate that after his transfer.

In fact, he was one of the more disappointing signings in recent West Ham history, as he never found the back of the net for the London club, only ever making 12 appearances in all competitions.

He was sold a year later to Celtic for just under £5m, but his form in Scotland has only been slightly better, scoring nine goals and picking up five assists in 48 games.

It’s for that reason that he was sent on loan to SK Sturm Graz this season, where he is playing in Europe and about to face Lazio in the Europa League, a team he was close to signing for prior to his transfer to West Ham.

This is what he said in an interview with Kronen Zeitung on Tuesday: “There were talks (with Lazio). In the end, it was certainly not a decision against Lazio, but my gut feeling advised me to go to West Ham.”

Perhaps it might be time to ignore that feeling, Manuel?
