Don Balon have somehow managed to link Pep Guardiola with serious interest in three players… and none of them are at Real Madrid or Barcelona.

That’s a shock because the Spanish rumour website have something of an obsession with continually insisting Manchester City want Isco and Sergio Busquets. This time the players chosen for purpose are Julian Weigl, Fabian Ruiz and Riyad Mahrez.

The moves are said to be ‘very advanced’ already, and Guardiola wants it all sorting out next week before the World Cup kicks off. There seems absolutely zero reason for that, given none of them are at the tournament in Russia, but this is Don Balon.

Mahrez is no surprise and this summer he may fully go AWOL if another exit from Leicester City falls through.

Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl is periodically linked with English clubs but nothing ever goes anywhere, and the Fabian Ruiz-to-Premier League rumour is one very much born from Don Balon.

Interestingly, the final paragraph reads: ‘Fabian Ruiz is considered in England as the ‘new Kaká’ since they see him as a great resemblance to the former Brazilian player’.

No, Don Balon, it was you who started the ‘new Kaka’ nonsense, back in May.
