A few years ago, Manchester City made some moves to sign Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus, only for the defender to stay where he was.
Fast forward to today, and said interest hasn’t disappeared, with the former Barcelona manager still keen to work with the Italian.
Corriere dello Sport are the ones reporting it, explaining Guardiola has ‘given a clear input’ to Ferran Soriano, which is that Bonucci is the ‘first objective’ to make Manchester City’s defence ‘airtight’.
The manager sees the Juventus veteran as the ‘perfect centre-back’ for his philosophy, which has led him to ‘increase the pressing’ to try and sign him.
However, there will be a lot of resistance in Turin, as Corriere make it clear the Serie A leaders consider Bonucci ‘unsellable’ and the player himself ‘sees himself’ dressed in black and white for the foreseeable future.
Add to that the possibility of City being banned from European football, and it makes a move to the Etihad a bit less appealing than it normally would, regardless of how much money is thrown at him.
And if it wasn’t clear already, Corriere finish their article with ‘Juventus won’t sell’.
