SportBild have a big claim in their magazine this week on Manchester City and Marco Reus.
The German publication report Pep Guardiola wanted to ‘lure’ Reus to Manchester this year, but his efforts ended up in nothing.
SportBild state Manchester City had ‘great interest’ in signing the Borussia Dortmund player and made sure that he knew about it.
After that, Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain got together to try and convince Sheikh Mansour to make an effort to sign Reus for the Premier League club.
Then in March, Reus extended his contract with the Bundesliga side until June 2023, and Manchester City then decided against a concrete offer for the player.
It sounds like there’s only one place this information has come from.
Manchester City are hardly likely to leak it, it will have come from the German side of the story. Given it makes Dortmund and Reus look good, it could be either of the parties.
SportBild do have good connections, but can only report what they’re told and this may be a club or player trying a little PR.
