Spanish newspaper AS have an article in their Tuesday edition on the future of Lucas Hernandez and interest from Manchester City. The 21 year old left footer is primarily a central defender but can also operate at left back, and Atletico Madrid may have a struggle on their hands to keep him.
AS explain that Manchester City were interested during the last summer transfer window, but Diego Simeone convinced the player to stay, and Atletico handed him a ;pay rise on a new deal with a €40m buyout clause.
That amount is seen as no problem for Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, who could easily meet the clause.
In July AS reported Manchester City were interested in both Lucas and Theo Hernandez, keen on the young French brothers. The idea of Guardiola being keen has been around for a while.
Lucas Hernandez has been in the Spanish media for all the wrong reasons recently. He’s set to face trial on February 21st for the alleged assault of his former girlfriend. Hernandez has asked for the trial to be postponed so he can travel to Germany to face Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.
Should Manchester City interest be genuine then they’ll surely be keeping an eye on Hernandez’s life off the pitch as well as on it.
