As expected, Aymeric Laporte is now a Manchester City defender.

The 23-year-old centre-back was announced on Tuesday as the defensive reinforcement the club were desperate to bring in in January, triggering the Frenchman’s €65m release clause in his Athletic Bilbao contract.

Keen to work alongside Pep Guardiola, Laporte will now have to fight for a spot in the Spaniard’s starting line-up, with both Nicolas Otamendi, John Stones and Vincent Kompany all ahead of him in the pecking order as things stand.

Presented with a very simple video on social media, the young defender now has a lot to look forward to, and the Manchester City manager told him exactly that during a brief chat captured by Sport, where the former Barcelona manager is overheard telling him: “El club está de puta madre, ya lo verás”.

While that may look like he’s insulting someone’s mother, he wasn’t. He was simply telling his new signing: “This club is f***ing great, you’ll see”.

The Catalan outlet report there’s no chance of the new signing featuring in Wednesday’s game against West Brom, but he could very well make his first appearance against Burnley on Saturday.

Now it’s up to Pep Guardiola to turn the talented centre-back into the world beater everyone expects him to become.
