Arsenal are interested in a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria but could face competition from Manchester City for his signature.
That’s according to Tag 24, who say both Premier League sides are ‘interested in a commitment’ with the Switzerland star this summer
They explain that Zakaria is one of the Monchengladbach player ‘being courted’ this summer and the German club’s chances of keeping him are ‘slim’ at this moment in time.
He was already ‘in demand’ last year and had the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Atlético Madrid and Barcelona chasing his signature.
Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich also put the feelers out, but a serious knee injury suffered in March 2020, which resulted in an eight-month layoff, ended any hopes of a transfer and a big payout for Gladbach.
However, there is a feeling that they can make their money this year instead with both Manchester City and Arsenal ‘interested in signing the player’.
They are yet to make a concrete offer, and Gladbach would like to keep the midfielder and extend his contract, but at the minute, Zakaria ‘seems to prefer a transfer’.
That is forcing the Bundesliga side into a sale as Zakaria only has 12 months left on his current deal, and the club are adamant that no players will be leaving on a free.
That gives both Arsenal and Manchester City the chance to get their man, potentially on the cheap, with Gladbach needing to sell and Zakaria keen on a move.
