Antoine Griezmann can’t shut up. And when he speaks, there’s usually a snippet in there for the Manchester United fans so desperate to see their club sign the player. Linked with several Premier League teams over the years, Manchester United have been the most seriously and repeatedly linked in recent months.

A natural target for Jose Mourinho, Griezmann saying he wants to play with Paul Pogba at club level, and suggestions he supports the club (Read this: Griezmann, United fan?), have all helped. Even Paul Scholes, not exactly the most optimistic of pundits, said to BT after the Feyenoord victory, that Manchester United should be targeting Griezmann.

Speaking to France’s Telefoot, Griezmann himself gave with one hand and took away with the other.

In words that would please Manchester United and his pal Paul Pogba, the Atletico player said: “The PSG project is interesting but the Ligue 1 not so much. I prefer to stay in La Liga or go to the Premier League. Ligue 1, it will be later. If I had to leave La Liga it would be to go to England, but I do not intend to start that now.

“I will never go to Real Madrid, anyway there is a pact between the two teams. Barça? The trident is untouchable there.”

Griezmann insists he’s happy at Atletico, and he certainly appears to be so. But the idea of a move keeps cropping up and, whilst he makes it clear it’s not something immediate, he doesn’t bat the idea away too strongly.

However, he also said he wants to win things, be a champion, and Manchester United have some work to do on that front.
