For two seasons, Zlatan Ibrahimovic was a Manchester United player, which went rather well all things considered.
The now 40-year-old, who still features for Milan these days when fit, scored 29 goals and assisted another 10 during his time at Old Trafford, which totalled 53 appearances in all competitions.
Whether he sat down and had a chat with fellow Swede Anthony Elanga in that time, we don’t know, but what is clear is that Zlatan appreciates the winger’s talent, having played with his father at Malmö.
The former Manchester United star said as much, speaking to SVT: “A great talent, we are proud and happy that he comes from Sweden. That he can represent Sweden now makes it even bigger. He has all the future ahead of him, and if he continues just as he has done, it looks positive. It’s just fighting, never being content, striving for more. How much he can develop depends on him.”
Elanga has quickly become something of a rising star at Old Trafford over the course of the current season, mostly under Ralf Rangnick, who has taken a shine to the 19-year-old.
The forward was the one who equalised against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League, a tie Manchester United ultimately lost, but he has seen his stature grow over the past few months.
This earned him the call up to Sweden’s national team, which he made clear was his favoured choice, despite having the chance to represent England or Cameroon as well.
