Spending six years at Liverpool without ever playing a game, Taiwo Awoniyi, following multiple loans, earned himself a permanent transfer to Union Berlin in the summer.

Spending just under £6m on the Nigerian striker, the Bundesliga side have reaped the benefits this season, as the towering forward has scored 17 goals and assisted another four in 36 games, which has caught the eye of a few Premier League clubs.

Previous reports in England have suggested that Newcastle United, still on the lookout for another striker to partner or challenge Chris Wood, are among those keen, which would make some sense.

Awoniyi’s eye for goal and impressive physique make him a prime candidate for the Premier League, which is likely why Liverpool signed him in the first place all those years ago, and now the Magpies could bring him back to England.

We’ll have to wait and see if Newcastle would be ready to pay the €30m touted, but one thing appears almost certain: he will be sold this summer somewhere.

This comes from Bild in Germany, who look at the reported Eddie Howe target’s situation, adding ‘it is very likely that he will be sold in the summer’.

Should the Bundesliga side manage to get the €30m for the striker, Oliver Ruhnert, their Managing Director of Sport, said to DAZN that it would help take the club ‘into a whole new dimension’.

And if they are presented with that money, former Union manager Christian Beeck is reported as saying: “Taiwo has shown that he is a great player with prospects. Is he worth €30m? Ultimately, the money on the market decides that. Union would have to sell him immediately for this amount.”

So, if Newcastle want Awoniyi, they know that €30m would likely do the trick.

Over to you Eddie Howe and co.
