Marko Arnautovic wasn’t exactly renowned for his maturity whilst at Inter Milan, with Jose Mourinho and others becoming frustrated with the forward’s attitude towards the game.

Now 29 years of age, the West Ham player is a different proposition, so when Manchester United were recently credited with interest it didn’t seem the most ridiculous transfer rumour around.

West Ham signed Arnautovic from Stoke City last summer and wouldn’t want to let him leave so quickly, at least partly because of the message it would send out. There would become a point that a financial offer was so big it made sense to the Hammers and their fans, but the question is whether United are interested enough to get there.

Mourinho being spotted at Austria versus Russia on Wednesday evening was reminiscent of his trip to Croatia which sparked Ivan Perisic claims. At the time Mourinho insisted he hadn’t been in the country on transfer business, but given how the Perisic claims then grew, few believed him.

Kurier, an Austrian newspaper, report that when asked why he was at the match, Mourinho said he’s on holiday in the Tyrol region and that was behind him attending.

Again, few will believe the Manchester United manager.

When Arnautovic himself was asked about Mourinho’s trip, the West Ham player said: “It is a great honour for our entire team that a coach like Mourinho is watching us.”
