Over the past few weeks there’s been an outbreak of optimism at Barcelona. The Catalan club have had a difficult period over the past year or so, with issues on and off the pitch.

Joan Laporta winning the club’s presidential election has given many surrounding the Camp Nou a boost, and it’s clear several key players are happy that he’s now the man in charge.

Lionel Messi is considered likelier to renew his contract, and there’s a belief there’ll be big efforts in the next summer window. Erling Haaland has been the big signing most linked with Barcelona recently, and Sport believe that whilst signing the Borussia Dortmund player is a difficult ‘dream’ it’s one which can come true.

Sport state that Laporta wants a huge signing to show ‘the great Barcelona has returned’.

He wants to send a message to the club’s rivals, and also improve Barca’s image on a global scale, likely to help with commercial opportunities.

Therefore he’s been planning a huge signing for months, even when he was still campaigning ahead of the elections.

People around the club have a growing confidence that Haaland can be signed, although it’s constantly repeated how difficult the battle will be.
