Roberto Soldado isn’t someone who holds his tongue.
Publicly falling out with Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman during a game, the Granada striker, who has 11 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions this season, also had something to say following his side’s 4-0 aggregate loss to Manchester United in the Europa League.
Assisting Edinson Cavani in the first half, Paul Pogba was also booked in the 17th minute, which he followed up with a couple of other tackles that the La Liga squad felt warranted at least a second yellow card.
That’s why Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the Frenchman off at half time, but Soldado feels the Norwegian should never have been given that choice.
Speaking in a press conference after the game and relayed by AS, the 35-year-old said: “We know that the details make the difference and the tie was an uphill battle, but it was a very clear second yellow for Pogba, which was the one thing that could open the tie for us. I saw it very clearly on the pitch, it was a second yellow, but the referee didn’t consider it that way”.
Granada, who are currently eighth, did well to make it as far as they did in the Europa League, and Soldado also revealed how ‘proud’ he was of the team for ‘always giving everything they have’.
The La Liga side are now unlikely to get a chance to repeat their heroics next season, but the former Tottenham striker believes the club are ‘growing leaps and bounds’.
