Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has insisted there is no complacency at the club, they’ve just made people too accustomed to winning everything.
The Portuguese midfielder has been speaking to Gianluca Di Marzio about life at Manchester City as they hunt down another title this season.
Manchester City appear to be hitting their stride in the second half of the season once again, with 12 wins in 13 games having put something of a mini crisis behind them.
Questions had been raised about the treble winners this season and if they would have the desire to compete on all fronts again this season after their historic campaign last year that saw them win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.
They went through something of a rough patch earlier in the campaign that played into that narrative but have since bounced back, quietly going on a strong run of form that has put them right back in contention and left the rest of the league concerned.
Indeed, some believe Manchester City could now be title favourites and while Bernardo Silva won’t go that far, he insists any idea of complacency is wide of the mark.
“It’s true that before the success against Luton, we hadn’t won in four games, with three defeats and a draw,” he said.
“By winning every match, we got people used to it. But this is not always possible in football. Sometimes it is normal not to play well and not win. But then it matters how the team reacts and in this sense the reaction was there. Now we need to continue like this.
“We’ve won five Premier Leagues in the last six years. This shows that the team doesn’t suffer from any complacency. Manchester City’s aim is to raise the bar, win trophies and make history. That’s exactly what they want the club and the fans.”
