Since Ben Godfrey moved to Atalanta from Everton he’s faced an ongoing, and clearly uphill, battle to work his way into Gian Piero Gasperini’s system.

The Atalanta manager has a rather unique approach and it’s often difficult for new signings to adapt to his demands. For Godfrey it was especially so.

That’s seen endless transfer claims which started just weeks into his time with La Dea, and after most of the bottom half of the Premier League being linked it’s Ipswich Town which looks like his next destination.

Saturday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport reports ‘Godfrey says goodbye’. It’s explained he’s stayed at home after Atalanta travelled to the Supercoppa Italiana in Saudi Arabia.

The reason is to sort out his future, with Ipswich Town now ‘pressing’ to get a deal over the line. Gazzetta dello Sport report multiple Premier League clubs remains interested, but it’s Ipswich who are the most concrete option right now.

Things are expected to move quickly, with developments in the next few hours possible.
