RB Leipzig manager Marco Rose has urged Tottenham loanee Timo Werner to ‘be humble’ and keeping working hard to continue impressing at Spurs.

The Leipzig boss has responded to recent comments from the German forward, who has insisted he is much happier now he is away from the German side.

He joined Tottenham on loan in the January transfer window, seeking regular playing time away from Leipzig in an effort to get himself into Germany’s squad for Euro 2024.

He admitted he is much happier than he ever was at Leipzig and seemed to take some thinly veiled digs at the Bundesliga side and manager Rose, who had pretty much left him out for much of this season.

Naturally those comments quickly made their way back to Germany and were well covered, with most unimpressed by what Werner had said.

It seems Rose is refusing to get involved in any sort of war of words with the Tottenham striker, though, insisting instead that he is more than happy to see him enjoying life back in the Premier League.

“I think I made a lot of effort for Timo. The issue is very complex overall,” he told BILD when asked about the matter.

“My office is always open, there was always the opportunity to talk to me. Overall, we had a good dialogue. Every player feels a little differently. Timo used similar words when he came to Leipzig from Chelsea.

“Timo should be happy that he’s doing really well again, that he’s playing a lot and performing well. Just like we do for him. Otherwise, it’s very important to pause, be humble and correctly assess your own situation.”

“We support him, we watch his games. We’re happy when he scores goals and when we see how he reacts to his own mistakes in the game, how he runs back, how he gets involved.

“He should keep at it. That’s good for us and for him. And then we’ll see what happens in the summer.”
