Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali has been speaking to the Italian media on Thursday, and a transfer rumour was brought into the conversation.
Interviewed by RAI Sport, the official was asked about Manchester City’s possible interest in midfielder Manuel Locatelli, which is being reported this week.
Carnevali didn’t want to confirm any talks with the Premier League side, and only admitted it’s good to have this kind of story circling around.
“Locatelli at City? It’s a good thing to be on everyone’s lips because it means that we’re doing a positive job,” Carnevalli told RAI Sport (via Tutto Mercato Web).
“These are all talks that will be made in the summer market because in January the opportunities for important players will not be taken into consideration”
Locatelli has never really been linked to Manchester City by the Italian media. The stories were brought by the English press earlier this week, and local papers ended up covering it, so that’s a rumour which is hardly coming from Sassuolo.
The midfielder joined the club in a €12.5m move from AC Milan back in 2019, and became an important piece in the team since then. Reports from December said they were demanding €40m to sell the player to Juventus, so Manchester City should know he won’t be a cheap or easy signing.
