Just days after Barcelona agreed a deal with Ajax for Frenkie De Jong in January, the rumours linking Matthijs de Ligt with a move to the Camp Nou picked up.
It was believed the Ajax captain would join the midfielder at his new club, but recent reports have indicated the deal is no longer straightforward for the La Liga winners.
A ‘Top Secret’ report from Mundo Deportivo once again explains the Netherlands international has still not accepted the proposal from the Blaugrana, while he has received better deals from other clubs.
The teenager feels his performance in the last two months of the season has further improved and wants to be paid accordingly.
For this reason, the centre-back and his agent Mino Raiola are asking Ernesto Valverde’s side to improve their offer and also provide assurances the 19-year-old will have a leading role in the team next season.
The Spanish champions are sticking to what was agreed during a summit in Monte Carlo last month and are unwilling to raise their offer, due to which the ‘good sensations of the player have disappeared’.
Mundo states the two sides are waiting to see who will budge first because at this moment, neither De Ligt nor Barca are planning to give in.
The player, for his part, has stood firm and wants the Catalan club to offer him a better economic proposal, if he’s to join them.
Despite this, at the Camp Nou they believe this is a tactic by Raiola to get a better deal for his client and trust the player to select Barcelona over other clubs due to the sporting project.
