Liverpool’s next attempt at defending the Champions League will start when they face Atlético Madrid in the first round of the knockout tie at Wanda Metropolitano on February 18th.

The Madrid side are currently without seven of their first team players and the list includes José Giménez, Santiago Arias, Kieran Trippier, Héctor Herrera, Álvaro Morata, João Félix and Diego Costa.

On February 10th, we carried a report from AS providing an update on the aforementioned players.

Regarding Giménez, it was claimed the defender is an ‘eternal doubt’ and it’s unsure if the La Liga side can count on him to face the Reds.

Tuesday’s edition of Sport claims ‘good news for Diego Simeone’ as Giménez ‘aims to be ready’ for the midweek clash against Jürgen Klopp’s side.

He missed the last five matches due to a muscle injury and returned to training with the group on Monday.

Atlético face Valencia at the Mestalla on Friday and it remains to be seen if Giménez will feature for the league tie.
