The past week or so, the reports emerging regarding Kevin Mirallas’ future at Fiorentina weren’t great.
The latest came last Wednesday, when Corriere dello Sport explained the Belgian forward was ‘heading towards’ a return to Everton, as the Serie A side felt €7m was a bit too much for a 31-year-old.
However, things have changed a bit since then, notably Federico Chiesa picking up an injury.
While this might not mean a lot for Fiorentina right now, the same newspaper explain that this could be huge for Mirallas.
The Italy international’s absence means the Everton loanee is favourite to start against Torino this weekend, and a good performance could turn things in his favour.
Wanting to avoid a return to Goodison Park as he knows he doesn’t have a future there, Mirallas is now ‘ready for the sprint’ until the end of the season.
The last report certainly wasn’t definitive, and the forward might have just caught a lucky break.
Now it’s up to him to make the most of it before Chiesa recovers.
