As a Chelsea fan, you’ll be fully aware of the situation Olivier Giroud finds himself in.

A very reliable striker, the Frenchman wants to play football on a regular basis, but he isn’t getting that at Stamford Bridge.

He’s made his intentions clear, and while he’d prefer to stay in London, he knows that might not be possible if Frank Lampard doesn’t give him more game time.

One of his options, should an exit be needed, is a return to France, where a number of Ligue 1 teams would welcome him with open arms (as long as he is willing to take a wage cut).

Marseille were linked at one point, as were Bordeaux, where one of his former teammates plays in Laurent Koscielny.

Speaking on the After Foot show on RMC Sport, relayed by Web Girondins, Daniel Riolo suggested a move to France’s southwest could be exactly what Giroud needs at this point in his career.

He said: “Speaking of Koscielny, I want to talk about another former Tours player who we’re told doesn’t want to return to France. You don’t think that in January, if you were the Bordeaux board, I’d try and get Olivier Giroud to come?

“He’d be with his mate Koscielny again, his cousin, Benoît Costil. Honestly, it would be a good operation and Bordeaux would be a good idea for him, on the Euro highway… For Giroud, it could be a good idea”.

He’s not wrong, especially with the Ligue 1 side now finding their footing under Paulo Sousa, as they currently sit sixth in the table after 10 games, three points ahead of Monaco and five in front of Lyon.

Perhaps this could be the chance for a quick six month loan before the Euros, just to get fully fit and ready instead of warming the Stamford Bridge bench?
