Leeds United defender Robin Koch has confirmed he’s been in touch with Germany boss Hansi Flick regarding a return to the international set up.
Koch has eight appearances for his country to date, having made his debut under Joachim Löw in October 2019.
He’s since featured for them in European qualifiers, the Nations League and International friendlies and was a part of their squad for Euro 2020 but spent that tournament sat on the bench.
Indeed, he’s not featured for his country since a 30-minute appearance in a 1-1 draw with Denmark before the Euros.
That’s because he’s missed their last seven World Cup qualifying games through injury, with a pubis bone contusion keeping him out of action for Leeds and Germany alike.
He’s been working his way back to fitness for months and is now back in action for Leeds, playing 90 minutes in all of their last three Premier League games.
That puts him back in contention for his country, and he’s made it clear that is the aim on several occasions, a sentiment he’s reiterated in an interview with Kicker.
“I definitely want to be back at the World Cup in the winter,” SportBuzzer report him saying.
“Mr Flick has already been in touch with me since his start and also checked with me before and after the operation to see how I was doing. We are in a good exchange.”
